ReProgram 2023

ReProgram is an intense three-week international graphic design program that connects students with some of the best designers and design thinkers in the Netherlands. The program, based in Den Haag, will change your approach to design thinking and practice by introducing and challenging you to new design methodologies. Projects place less focus on the finished artifact and more on the critical evolution of what informs the design. 

The program has been developed by the Communication Design Department at College for Creative Studies in Detroit and is lead by Susan LaPorte and Matthew Raupp, Communication Design Professors. It is divided into two broad sessions each directed by tutors who bring their unique design process to the sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to work on studio projects alongside internationally recognized Dutch designer Bob van Dijk (www.bobvandijk.com) and RNDR (rndr.studio).

Studio tours and individual work sessions are also part of the program. A few individuals and offices from past years include Studio Moniker, Studio Dumbar, Team Thursday, 75 B, Lava, Koehorst in’t veld, Lesley Moore, Trapped in Suburbia, Underware, Thonik, Mevis /van Deursen, Karel Martens, Experimental Jetset, Richard Niessen, Esther de Vries, Peter Bilák, RNDR, Superposition, Werkplaats Typografie, CatalogTree, Speculoos, Clever Franke, Guido BeBoer, BASE Design as well as many others.

While the sessions have a focus on making, building, coding, animating, writing, photographing, videoing and other forms of articulating an idea, this is not a portfolio program.

Beyond the studio sessions participants will visit design studios, museums, private collections, design schools, and guest critics in a variety of Dutch cities, such as Amsterdam, Arnhem, Breda, Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Utrecht. Side trips have included visits to cities such as Brussels, Antwerp, Berlin, Paris, Prague and Copenhagen. The program is 3 graduate or undergraduate studio credit hours.
